Remote system administration

Maintain and tune the server you already run.

We provide remote system administration, server tuning and maintenance after a website or platform migration. The work begins with what the server runs, the problem you are seeing and the access needed to investigate it.

Measure the workload before changing the machine

A slow response, growing disk use or a long boot can have different causes. We inspect the services and configuration, establish a baseline and agree which changes to make.

The scope includes how the server will be maintained afterwards. For a platform move, that means deciding which services remain, which move and who operates the replacement.

Administration and performance work

  • Remote administration

Review running services, configuration and access for an existing server.

  • Performance investigation

Measure the reported problem and compare results before and after agreed changes.

  • Server tuning

Assess storage, memory, startup and background services against the workload.

  • Maintenance after migration

Agree the updates and operating work the replacement environment needs.

An example from our own development server

Our Raspberry Pi development server ran web applications, databases and several services that had accumulated over time. We measured it, reviewed each proposed change and repeated the disk tests with matching settings after a reboot.

The published tuning report records the hardware, results and changes we left alone. It also explains why we did not publish a memory-saving figure: the before and after measurements were not comparable. Results from that machine are not a promise about yours.

Scope, access and continuing maintenance

What do you need to scope the work?

Describe the server's role, operating environment and the problem you want investigated. For migration follow-up, include what moved and what remains. Credentials can follow after scope and confidentiality are agreed.

Can you maintain a system after a migration?

Yes. We agree the maintenance needed by the replacement environment as part of the project or as a separate scope.

Do you provide emergency or 24/7 support?

We take on planned administration and maintenance projects. We do not operate a 24/7 on-call service.

Can the work stay confidential?

Yes. Client systems and project details stay private. We can sign an NDA before discussing access or configuration.
